The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s entire culinary and event offering has now been reimagined and renewed, by hospitality partner The Big Group.
Canvas, launched on Level 4 this month, an exciting addition to Sydney’s food and entertainment scene, with elevated views across Sydney Harbour, newly renovated spaces and immersive programming featuring seasonal guest chefs and ever-evolving menus. For the launch of Canvas, The Big Group has collaborated with Josh Raine, who was Executive Chef of the legendary Tetsuya’s from 2018 until this year.
With a pedigree that includes such icons as Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saison in Oxford, Pied à Terre in London and St Betty’s in Hong Kong, Josh’s inclusive, innovative cuisine is inspired by and embraces all the places that he has called home. Josh’s menu for Canvas features fresh, seasonal fare executed with his trademark precision and innovation.
Canvas is open to museum visitors and the public from Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, with a two-course menu for $85 pp and a three-course option at $100. It is also available for private hire for evening events from Sunday to Sunday.
MCA Australia’s level 4 Loti Smorgon Sculpture Terrace remains open for all visitors to enjoy the Museum’s sculpture commissions, currently Kate Newby’s Hours in Wind, 2024.
The MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah opened on the ground floor of the Museum in July, doubling the seating capacity of the Museum’s cafe. Open seven days a week, with stunning views from the Harbour Bridge to Sydney Opera House, this casual all-day dining experience is focused on sustainable, seasonal produce. MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah is open from 7am – 5pm on weekdays and 9am – 5pm on weekends, making it even more accessible to our visitors before the Museum opens at 10am.
The stylish rooftop venues, The Quayside Room and Harbourside Room, on level 6 of MCA Australia, and the iconic Foundation Hall on the ground floor, have also been refurbished and offer exceptional event fare, along with unrivalled views of Sydney Harbour, Circular Quay and its iconic ferries.
Suzanne Cotter, Director of MCA Australia said, ‘We could not be more delighted to be working with The Big Group as our new hospitality partners and to offer our visitors a choice of dining options as part of their museum experience. The MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah is fast-becoming a go-to place for Sydneysiders and visitors to Sydney to enjoy arguably one of the best locations and views in Sydney. Canvas brings creativity in the form of exceptional food from some of our best contemporary chefs to complete MCA Australia’s offer of the best of contemporary art. Great museums all over the world have embraced the art of food, and we’re excited to share our new world-class offering.’
