Portraits of a city
Wednesday 12 March at 6 pm
Hosted by Peter Kingston exhibition co-curator Mathilde de Hauteclocque, a panel of Sydney artists will examine depictions of the Emerald City in art. The conversation will explore how art can create both a physical and imaginative understanding of place. A special viewing of artists’ works from the Library’s collection will be available before and after the talk.

Legacies of Dunera
Lead curator of our current exhibition Dunera: Stories of Internment, Louise Anemaat, will recount the story of the Dunera and its ‘enemy alien’ internees, focusing on the nature and role of art created in internment, and its legacy.

Discover the interesting research that is being done by our Fellows using the Library’s incredible collection. This month Dr Caitlin D’Gluyas takes an archaeological view of industry in convict-era Parramatta to reveal a glimpse of early colonial working life.

Be inspired by the Peter Kingston exhibition and create your own unique stamp. The event will begin with a tour of the exhibition, followed by a hands-on workshop. All the materials you need will be provided.

Wednesday 19 March at 6 pm
Join curators Alice Tonkinson and Sarah Morley for an evening with some of the Library’s newly acquired published delights, including private press books, travel posters and first editions.

The Australian Dream?
Take a look at archival treasures in our much-loved Library with architecture and design enthusiast Tim Ross as he reveals a multi-decade story of Australian homes. Presented as part of the Library’s Year of Architecture.

Entries are now open to the 2025 NSW History Awards
A total of $85,000 to be awarded across these 6 categories:
- Australian History Prize ($15,000)
- General History Prize ($15,000)
- New South Wales Community and Regional History Prize ($15,000)
- Young People’s History Prize ($15,000)
- Digital History Prize ($15,000)
- Anzac Memorial Trustees Military History Prize ($10,000)
The winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at the State Library during History Week in September.
