Sunday 23 April is World Book Day!

Commemorating the deaths of three famed authors — William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega — World Book Day is an international celebration of books and reading.

Here are five ways you can celebrate with the State Library:

  2. Inspire the young readers in your life — our Imagine … the Wonder of Picture Books exhibition is the perfect way to introduce kids to the Library and spark a lifelong love of books and reading. Plan your visit
  3. Find your new favourite book — browse the vast and fascinating range of books in The Library Shop. Enjoy 10% off* in-store or online, using the code WBD23. Offer only valid on 23 April 2023. (*excludes sale items). Shop here
  4. Surround yourself with Cervantes — get exclusive access to our beautiful heritage lounge which is surrounded by more than 1000 copies of Miguel de Cervantes’ epic novel, Don QuixoteBecome a Friend of the Library
  5. See what’s on our ‘wish list’ of first or significant editions for acquisition — contributions made to our annual appeal this year will help us to enhance the Library’s rare books collection. Learn more

Shhhhh … Be the first to visit when one of Sydney’s most beautiful booklined rooms reopens. The Library’s little-known Shakespeare Room will open to the public every day from Monday 24 April 2023.
