EARLY REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS A TIMELY BOOST FOR CBD BUSINESSES
Business Sydney says the Premier’s announcement of an earlier than expected easing of covid restrictions will provide a much-needed boost for struggling CBD businesses and get the city’s economic recovery moving quicker.
“Tomorrow’s early removal of restrictions including capacity limits in hospitality venues will greatly benefit many in the arts and entertainment sector as well as the important business events industry,’” said Paul Nicolaou, Executive Director of Business Sydney.
“While the capacity limits continued to prevent many venues making money by reducing numbers at events and live performances, they can now get on with turning a profit.”
“Businesses will now be in charge of making their own plans for a return to workplaces from tomorrow, with the work from home rule being removed and left to the owners’ discretion.”
“While QR codes had served us well throughout the pandemic it is time to scrap them as announced today, making it easier for consumers to access retail and dining establishments as well as saving businesses time and money enforcing their use.”
“This makes good sense as we witness the return of international tourists, who wouldn’t have a Service NSW app, leaving businesses to have to check them in manually.”
“As a further encouragement to tourists, hotel quarantine for unvaccinated travelers will be reduced from 14 days to 7 days on Monday, another boost for the visitor economy.”
“Also, the heavily impacted nightclub scene will begin to return to normal earlier and this is a vital part of creating our night time economy, helping attract international tourists to our city.”
“The CBD urgently needs people back in city workplaces as well as a return of tourists and the easing of the last of our covid restrictions will get feet back on city streets and help to get Sydney’s mojo back.”.
