Cumberland City Council Digs in for Nature on National Tree Day

Cumberland City Council, in partnership with Planet Ark, is calling on all residents to roll up their sleeves and get involved in Australia’s largest tree planting and nature care event, National Tree Day!
This year’s event will be held on Sunday, 27 July 2025 from 10am to 12noon, this family-friendly community planting day is a great opportunity to reconnect with nature, contribute to the local environment, and enjoy a free sausage sizzle with fellow residents.
Together, the community will help plant 2,200 trees, shrubs and ground covers that are native to the endangered Cumberland Plains Woodland ecosystem.
Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed said National Tree Day was a chance for the community to take meaningful action for the environment.
“This event is about more than just planting trees, it’s about creating a greener, healthier future for our community,” said Mayor Hamed.
“By coming together to care for our local environment, we’re strengthening our connection to place and each other.”
All equipment will be provided on the day, however families are welcome to bring their own gardening tools, along with a reusable water bottle, closed footwear, and a sun-safe hat.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help green your neighbourhood, support biodiversity, and enjoy quality time outdoors.

Participants can register to volunteer at one of five planting sites across the Cumberland Local Government Area.

- Guilfoyle Park, Regents Park
- Marrong Reserve, Pemulwuy
- Holroyd Gardens, Merrylands
- Lytton Street Park, Wentworthville
