PARLIAMENT OF NSW OPEN FOR BUSINESS THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Looking for something free, educational, and fun to do with your children these school holidays? NSW Parliament House is open so families can
explore the history of Australia’s first and oldest parliament.
President of the NSW Legislative Council, Ben Franklin encourages parents and children to experience democracy these school holidays. By entering the historic chambers at the
Parliament of NSW and sitting in the very seats where decisions are made, children can start their journey to being an active citizen in our democracy.
“It really is a wonderful opportunity, and something I’d encourage everyone to explore, regardless of age. This is a unique opportunity to visit both parliamentary chambers where
our representatives debate and make laws for the citizens of this state.”
During the school holidays, the engaging tours will be held every weekday at 11.30am and 1.30pm. Highlights of the one-hour tour include the chance to sit in the Speaker and
President’s chair and hear directly from staff who work in the chambers when parliament sits. Visitors might even get to glimpse the historic restoration underway in our over 200-
year-old building.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Greg Piper said he loves that the tours give everyone the opportunity to take a seat in the chamber and experience parliament in-person.
“There aren’t many parliaments in the world where you can do that. I hope exploring the place where important decisions are made and getting immersed in the rich heritage of our
democracy will leave a lasting impression on future leaders.”
