PARLIAMENT OF NSW WELCOMES FAMILIES TO THE FESTIVAL OF DEMOCRACY
These school holidays, celebrate democracy at Australia’s oldest Parliament with free, fun activities for children and their families.
On Friday 19 April, the Parliament of NSW will welcome families to explore the history of democracy in Australia, with a day of hands-on crafts, interactive games and captivating
performances.
With activities targeted at kids aged 4 to 12, the festival offers a unique opportunity for families to learn about the democratic process in an interactive and fun-filled environment.
Children can participate in mock committee hearings and even learn how to vote in a child friendly election designed by the NSW Electoral Commission.
Visitors can also enjoy craft sessions, guided tours of the historic chambers and a bite to eat and coffee from the Public Cafe.
The Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, President of the Legislative Council at the Parliament of NSW, welcomes families from across the state to join in on the free holiday activities and
experience Parliament in a fun and engaging way.
“We’re thrilled to host the Festival of Democracy and welcome kids and their families to join us at NSW Parliament and learn about democracy. In addition to enjoying the fun, visitors will get to explore our soon to be newly restored Parliament including the historic Rum Hospital,” said Mr Franklin.
Jeannie Douglass, Senior Manager Education and Engagement at the Parliament of NSW, invites families to explore the range of educational activities and entertainment on offer.
“We encourage everyone to join us for a day of learning, fun, and of course, a lot of democracy on show,…We’re looking forward to seeing the more than 1,200 parents and children who have already registered to attend.”
