  • New York jury finds former US president and presumptive Republican nominee guilty on all 34 counts
  • He is first former president in US history to be charged with crimes; trial was one of four he faces in federal and state courts, but likely only one before November election
Donald Trump, the former US president and presumptive Republican presidential candidate this November, was found guilty on all 34 counts in a closely watched New York state election-interference trial involving falsified business records and hush money paid to an adult film star.

Sentencing, ranging from probation to four years in prison, will be on July 11, New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan said after the verdict was read in a Manhattan court.

This would take place four days before the start of the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be nominated. Nothing in the US Constitution prevents a convicted felon from running for the presidency.

Trump can and is likely to appeal. And, as a first-time felon with no criminal record, he is unlikely to get any jail time.
