“Sydney central overall is the busiest railway station in Australia and up to 200,000 people a day come through here through this new entrance to the north south concourse here in the central wall, with the vast majority of those people transferring through here,.. either walking through actually connected to the other stations or the levels of the escalators to those platforms.
“So it will be the absolute beating heart of the transport network here. And the metro station will be a key part of that when that opens next.”
“I am here with Peter Regan from Sydney Metro,.. and I know that visitors to this new part of Sydney are going to be as surprised and as impressed as we are.”
” This is now a global, magnificent asset for our city, a Grand Central Station fit for a global city like Sydney, passengers will enjoy not only they do big and airy spaces, but the access that it provides, or they will be able to come down from the Old Central through the passage behind me and then access all of the Sydney trains platforms using a lift or an escalator, to travel where they need to go.”
“This will be a part of Sydney’s great assets that people will come and visit Sydney siders and visitors across the world will come to see Sydney Grand Central, not just if they want to catch a train, but to enjoy this magnificent new space.:””
“This is a grand central station now fit for a great local city. “It is also an enhancement to the heritage of Sydney Central Station.
“In fact, Sydneysiders will love the continuation of the sandstone as well as the light and new grand spaces here that they can enjoy. A restoration of the Heritage section of Central is underway and will only enhance this great part of our public transport network, not just for those who want to catch a train, but also to enjoy this magnificent new space. Cities around the world like New York have a Grand Central Station are replays that people visit not just if they want to catch a train, but to have an experience in that city. It captures the public’s imagination. This new Sydney central will do the same.”
