‘Tis the Scrumptious Season!-Celebrate Wonka this festive season at Darling Square, with delicious surprises and sumptuous delights
This festive season, Darling Square will be partnering with Warner Bros in celebration of all things Wonka, with a fleet of activities running from 1 December until 27 December. Visitors to the precinct can expect to find a four metre high, Christmas tree shaped lolly jar for a magical family photo moment, limited-time retailer specials, roving entertainment and live music. The Square will also be decked out in spectacular decorations that will delight and inspire visitors of all ages, from a hanging umbrella installation to fairy lights, fairy floss trees, a Wonka Bar table and more.
Based on the extraordinary character at the centre of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible. Wonka hits Australian cinemas from December 14.

For the duration of the campaign a giant, Christmas tree shaped lolly jar will be situated outside The Exchange. Visitors will have the chance to guess how many lollies are in the jar, with the winner receiving a prize package for four people valued at over $4,400 including: return flights from nearest capital city to the Gold Coast, $500 spending money for transfers and meals, four nights shared hotel accommodation and Warner Bros Movie World passes plus other amazing prizes for the whole family! Additional prizes include over 10 x family in season passes to see Wonka in cinemas and Darling Square retailer offers.
Each Friday through to Sunday there will be delightful and magical acts from roving entertainers bringing the Square to life. On Fridays (1, 8, 15 & 22 December), the Sugar Plum Fairy will be roaming the Square, granting wishes and handing out lollipops from 6-8pm, and there will be free face painting from 6-9pm. Those who head in on a Saturday (2, 9, 16 & 23 December) will get to meet Fairy and Floss, a delicious duo who will be walking around Darling Square on stilts, handing out free fairy floss.
There will be face painting between 6-9pm on Saturdays. Every Sunday (3, 10 & 17 December), Santa Clause will be handing out free Wonka bars and posing for free Santa photos between 6-7pm, to be followed by a magician who’ll be making magic from 7pm. Between 6-9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, DJs will bring the vibe to Darling Square with live music sets.
