Wednesday, 14 May 2025

A man has been charged after a sawn-off rifle and a balaclava were seized in a vehicle stop at Summer Hill this morning.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command were called to Bogan Street about 10am (Wednesday 14 May 2025), after a member of the public called concerned about a man slumped in his car with the engine running for an hour.

When police approached the vehicle, a 34-year-old Summer Hill man was removed.

Police will allege drug paraphernalia was seen inside the vehicle, and a search was conducted, during which a sawn-off .22 rifle, ammunition, balaclava, gloves, and cannabis was found.

Checks revealed the man has been disqualified from driving until June 2027.

The man has been taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with four offences – possess shortened firearm, possess ammunition without a permit, possess prohibited drug and drive whilst disqualified.

The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 15 May 2025).
