Update -Sydney Rail strike over weekend called off after intervention of Premierwith a fortnight of bargaining and negotiation ahead
Sydney trains will now operate this weekend after the NSW government reached a deal with the rail union to prevent a train strike on the basis of continuing negotiations.
In addition the NSW government has agreed to run as many 24-hour train services as possible this weekend, starting tonight after demands by the Rail union.
With continuing negotiations no underway ,NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen says that both the government and transport unions “want an outcome by Christmas”, but there remains a significant risk of a repeat of this weeks threat to service in the very near future

I don’t want this, the government doesn’t want this, and passengers definitely don’t want this,” she said.”But we’ve got to be very clear here that the actions are still in place for Friday and Saturday, causing potential massive disruption to our network and meaning that people can’t get where they need to go.”
