BIPARTISAN PLANNING REFORM

Sydney,20 january,2025

*Media Statement by NSW Opposition leader Mark Speakman

Shadow Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Scott Farlow and I met with Premier Chris Minns and Planning Minister Paul Scully today to discuss reforming the slow and overly complex planning system.

It was a constructive discussion about potential bipartisan solutions, touching on general principles and specific proposals.

The Opposition believes the principles underlying the 2013 proposed reforms remain a strong foundation, particularly enhancing upfront community consultation during the strategic stage while streamlining and fast-tracking the assessment process for particular applications.

We’re keen to engage in a genuine dialogue with the Government to deliver a planning system that works better for everyone and delivers more housing.

We’ve agreed to meet again soon, with further-developed ideas to be reviewed and considered.
