LABOR MOVES TO MAKE THE MINISTERIAL REGISTER OF INTERESTS PUBLIC
The NSW Labor Leader Jodi McKay will today introduce legislation to require the Ministerial Register of Interests be made public, as part of her ongoing fight for integrity in Government.
Ms McKay will give notice of a bill to amend the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act in the Legislative Assembly.
The register includes property and business interests declared by Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries but has always been secret.
“The people of NSW should be confident their elected representatives are working in the public interest, not for their own financial interests,” Ms McKay said.
“Making the Ministerial Register of Interests publicly available will reassure the community and promote open and transparent Government.”
The Bill is one of several integrity measures Labor has introduced, including a ban on Parliamentary Secretaries and Ministers receiving commissions from property developers.
Ms McKay said reform is urgently needed: “It’s hard to believe these changes are necessary. But it’s important because these matters cut to the heart of integrity in public office and the standard we set for politics in NSW.
