Autumn in Sydney officially starts on March 1st and ends on May 31st.
While the astronomical start of autumn (marked by the autumnal equinox) can vary slightly, the meteorological seasons are more commonly used and provide a consistent timeframe. So, if you’re looking forward to cooler weather, beautiful foliage, and pleasant days in Sydney, mark your calendar for March 1st!1Autumn is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with some delicious wine?
ALDI has you covered with five fantastic options that won’t break the bank. From award-winning Champagne to a Barossa rosé crafted by a top artisan winemaker, there’s something for everyone.
1. Monsigny Brut NV – $32.99
Forget the big Champagne houses – this award-winning bubbly offers exceptional quality and value. The Monsigny Brut Champagne NV is elegant, restrained, and delicate, showcasing a delightful array of citrus and floral aromas with fine, pastry-like complexity.
Expect notes of baked apple, brioche, and a touch of yeastiness, leading to a crisp and refreshing palate with flavors of lemon meringue pie and ripe stone fruits. Pair it with seafood, poultry, or light appetizers.
2. Château de la Roche Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2023 – $13.99
Produced by the renowned Pierre Chainier family in the Loire Valley, this award-winning, estate-grown Touraine Sauvignon Blanc is a steal. If you enjoy Sancerre, you’ll love this more affordable alternative. You can expect vibrant aromas of gooseberry, passionfruit, and grapefruit zest, complemented by notes of cut grass, flint, and refreshing intense minerality. The palate is dry and crisp with high acidity, mirroring the aromas and culminating in a clean, lingering finish. Perfect with seafood, salads, or goat cheese.
I tried this with a plate of Sydney Rock Oysters and it was fabulous but be warned it is Dry and has intense minerality and length,… which is why its such a good food wine.
3. Nerissimo Puglia Verdecca 2023 – $11.99
This Verdecca, native to Puglia, is the perfect summer and seafood white. Fresh and medium-bodied, a touch of barrel ferment adds complexity and texture, making this wine a true pleasure to drink. Look for aromas of green apple, citrus, and subtle floral notes, followed by a crisp, dry palate with flavors of green apple and citrus, finishing with a slightly mineral or saline note. Enjoy it with seafood, salads, or light pasta dishes. I have enjoyed several vintages of this and normally serve it with Italian Antipasta like Green olives and Prosciutto.
4. Jean Marie Garnier VDF Chardonnay 2023 – $11.99
This blend of fruit from Southern France, with a touch of Burgundy, offers medium weight and texture, plenty of fruit, and a dash of Burgundian complexity. Expect aromas of ripe pear, yellow apple, and a touch of citrus, leading to a dry, light-to-medium-bodied palate with the fruit flavors following through. A great everyday Chardonnay that pairs well with chicken salad, grilled fish, or creamy pasta.
“I enjoyed this wine but reckon it could easily be mistaken for Barossa chardonnay, so we have a French Burgundian winemaker imitating the Aussie style.”

5. Schwarz Barossa Rosé 2024 – $14.99
Exclusively made for ALDI by Jason Schwarz, a leading artisan winemaker in the Barossa Valley, this rosé is crafted from handpicked Shiraz, Grenache, and Mataro grapes from vines aged up to 56 years.
The style is dry, savory, and textural, with wild summer fruits, dried red fruits, and a touch of spice. Expect a vibrant pink hue, aromas of fresh red berries and perhaps some spice, and a dry, refreshing palate with prominent red berry flavors and a potentially savory note.
A perfect food rosé for grilled seafood, Mediterranean cuisine, or spicy Indian Curry or other Asian dishes, but Be warned it is steely Dry,.. but the fruit Syrah intensity remains and travels all the way to the finish on the back palate – Perfect!
“I reckon this is a succesful attempt to create a French Bandol style Rose which invariably features Mourvedre grapes but here the winemaker is using Shiraz ,..which really gives the Rose a bit of oomph,..compared to the slightly anaemic Provence Roses which are all hints of berries and cream. I tried this with various Antipasti and it really worked well and was perfect with a spicy Beef Curry containing Chilli. If you are a red wine drinker but need to drink a lighter wine (with practically anything) this is the Go – This is a pioneering step in Rose wine making by an Artisan Barossa winemaker!”
