A Taste of Lebanon Comes East: Al Aseel Opens in Pagewood

Al Aseel Pagewood , one of Sydney’s most iconic Lebanese restaurant chains , also celebrates a milestone and is located in the vibrant Pagewood Centro by Meriton opening its first Eastern Suburbs location. Known for its authentic family-style feasts and rich, generational recipes, Al Aseel brings a taste of Middle Eastern hospitality, offering diners locally sourced, high-quality ingredients.

“We’re honoured to be part of Meriton’s latest precinct and excited to bring Al Aseel’s authentic Lebanese dining experience to the heart of Pagewood,” says Georges Badr, Group General Manager Al Aseel.

“Our menu is crafted to celebrate community, with traditional dishes like our hot and cold mezze platters and charcoal-grilled meats, all designed to bring people together over a shared meal. We look forward to bringing Middle Eastern hospitality to Meriton’s Pagewood Precinct.”

And bring it they have. Stepping into Al Aseel Pagewood is like being transported to a bustling Lebanese family gathering. The warm, inviting atmosphere, coupled with the tantalizing aromas wafting from the open kitchen, immediately sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The restaurant’s design, while modern, retains a sense of tradition, creating a comfortable and welcoming space for families and groups alike.

The menu, a testament to Al Aseel’s commitment to authenticity, is a treasure trove of Lebanese classics. For our review, we opted for a selection that showcased the breadth and depth of their offerings.

A Feast for the Senses:

We began with the Mixed Mezze Platter, a vibrant tapestry of textures and flavours. The creamy hummus, smooth and nutty, was perfectly complemented by the tangy baba ghanoush, smoky and rich. The tabouli, fresh and herbaceous, provided a refreshing counterpoint to the warm, crispy falafel. The delicate vine leaves, stuffed with fragrant rice and herbs, were a highlight, showcasing the attention to detail that Al Aseel is known for.

Moving onto the mains, the Charcoal-Grilled Mixed Plate was a carnivore’s delight. The tender lamb skewers, juicy chicken tawouk, and perfectly spiced kaftawere all cooked to perfection, each retaining its distinct flavour. The charcoal grill imparted a smoky depth that elevated the meat to another level. Accompanied by fluffy Lebanese bread and a side of creamy garlic sauce, it was a truly satisfying experience.

For those seeking a lighter option, the Samke Harra, a spicy baked fish, is apparently a  a revelation. The flaky white fish, bathed in a vibrant tomato and chilli sauce, is reputedly bursting with flavour.

Generational Recipes, Modern Presentation:

While Al Aseel prides itself on its traditional recipes, the presentation is undeniably modern and refined. Each dish is thoughtfully plated, showcasing the vibrant colours and fresh ingredients. The service is equally impressive, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are passionate about sharing their love for Lebanese cuisine.

The drinks menu offers a range of traditional Lebanese beverages, as well as a selection of wines and beers. We opted for a tasty Hunter valley Chardonnay from the Wine List , but you can experince drinking Arak  a traditional anise-flavoured spirit, which perfectly complements  the rich flavours of a meal.

A Community Hub:

Al Aseel’s arrival in Pagewood is more than just a new restaurant opening; it’s a welcome addition to the local community. The restaurant’s focus on shared meals and family-style dining creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages connection and conversation.

The Verdict:

Al Aseel Pagewood delivers on its promise of authentic Lebanese cuisine and warm hospitality. The quality of the ingredients, the skill of the chefs, and the attentive service all contribute to a truly exceptional dining experience. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Lebanese food or a newcomer to the cuisine, Al Aseel is sure to impress. With its generous portions, reasonable prices, and welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to gather with friends and family and experience the true taste of Lebanon. Al Aseel in Pagewood is a strong recommendation, and a must try for those in the Eastern Suburbs.
