Singapore’s thriving craft beer scene isn’t news to anyone who has walked into a local bar or visited Beerfest Asia at least once , but what makes Lion Brewery Co. unique is that it was was conceived in London some 70 years ago, and it supplied beers across the world during the Victorian times. Unfortunately a tragic fire saw its premises burn down, but the brewery has risen once more in Singapore, where it now calls home.
It recently launched with two beers, the Straits Pale Ale and the Island Lager, both aromatic and fresh enough to be chug-worthy in Singapore’s sweltering tropical heat.
Singapore has a a longstanding legacy of homegrown breweries and cool taprooms where beer lovers can enjoy limited batches of pale ales and triple-strength IPAs. and Lion Brewery definitely fits the category of being an underrated brewery that you should check out on your next beer crawl in Singapore.

It turns out that Lion Brewery Co was founded in Singapore by three friends in 2018, who had a a desire to brew quality craft beers designed for tropical, sunny days.Whilst Lion Brewery Co is now Singaporean craft beer company. Yet the original story begins in London in 1836, when the brewery was originally founded on the banks of the River Thames.For over a hundred years, Lion Brewery Co became one of the godfathers of what we now know as craft beer – producing high quality ales that were shipped across the seas to all parts of the globe, including Southeast Asia.
“When the brewery was demolished in 1949 after a devastating fire, the brewery’s two iconic lion statues, so loved by the people, were preserved at the request of King George VI. They can still be found in London today — one on the bank of the Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament, and the other at the entrance of Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby.”

Fascinated by the brewery’s history of crafting great beer for centuries, the 3 partners picked up the mantle and brought Lion Brewery Co back to life in Singapore in 2018. Since then, we’ve been on a mission to brew beer enjoyed the world over, infused with the time-honoured traditions of the brewery’s history.For over a hundred years, Lion Brewery Co became one of the godfathers of what we now know as craft beer – producing high quality ales that were shipped across the seas to all parts of the globe, including Southeast Asia.
The Lion statues remain steadfast to this day: one adjacent to Westminster Bridge, opposite the Houses of Parliament; the other standing guard at the gates of Twickenham Stadium, the home of English Rugby.
As the business grew and brewing operations began to seriously level up, Neo (yes, he really is the one) came onboard as their Brewmaster.
Fast forward to 2022, and the Brewery now have six core range beers – three Flagships, and three as part of their Brewer’s Series. In total,t hey have brewed over 60 different seasonal varieties and counting, as they continue in the craft beer tradition of innovation, experimentation, and creativity.the Brewery partners firmly believe in brewing beer that is better for both you and for the environment. It turns out that their commitment to sustainability affects how they produce and sell their beers.

Straits Pale Ale
Crisp, sessionable beer
Tasting Notes:Flavourful, refreshing pale ale brewed for the hot equatorial climate and enjoyed the world over. Single-hopped with Citra at both the bittering and dry-hop stages for notes of lychee and citrus fruits. Well-balanced with dry golden tones and a moderate alcohol content, making for an extremely sessionable beer.
Island lager
Brewed naturally in the tropics
Tasting Notes: A thirst-quenching pilsner made for the tropics. Clean, crisp, and dry-hopped with Hallertau Blanc for an elderflower and pine aroma. Smooth and unpasteurised, making for a delicious, highly sinkable beer.
Kaiser KÖLSCH
Tasting Notes: This Kolsch is a delicately balanced beer with a crisp, refreshing edge. Presents a subtle hop character, low malt body and a fragrant aroma of pear and apple. Muted fruitiness and vinous flavours suffuse this light-gold beer thanks to plenty of Halltertau Tradition hops, which we’ve paired with specialty Kveik yeast for a unique version of this classic Köln brew. Tastes of happiness.
