Felons Brewing Co.is “wowing them” at Manly Wharf

Felons Brewing Co., one of Australia’s most innovative craft breweries a poular Manly destination. Taking over Manly Wharf Bar, Felons brings its award-winning craft beer and vibrant community spirit to the famed Sydney waterfront destination. The brewery’s name was inspired by the adventurous spirit of four felons who became shipwrecked after setting sail from Sydney in 1823, making this launch a symbolic homecoming.

Ahead of the opening,..Adam Flaskas, co-founder and director of Artemus Group said  “We believe Felons will elevate what locals have always loved about this destination, bringing fresh energy with award-winning beers, a creative produce-driven menu and a stellar live music lineup. It’s all part of building a legacy for future generations of Manly residents and visitors to enjoy”

Felons Manly showcases a curated selection of beers brewed with fresh, local ingredients, including Crisp Lager, Galaxy Haze, and Australian Pale Ale, alongside barrel-aged and seasonal, limited-edition brews including a Japanese Rice Lager specifically brewed for Manly.

Beyond beer, the drinks list will include a mix of refreshing cocktails, Champagne, Australian and international wine, a thoughtful selection of spirits, and non-alcoholic alternatives. With sustainability at the heart of Felons’ brewing philosophy, Felons has also partnered with Seabin Foundation, an environmental not-for-profit tackling ocean pollution. For every glass of Japanese Rice Lager sold, one item of plastic will be removed from Sydney Harbour.

Celebrated chef Corey Costelloe, former culinary director of Rockpool Bar and Grill,  designed the Felons Manly menu with a focus on simple cooking using best-in-class produce.

Menu highlights include: A 600g CopperTree Farms 45-day, dry-aged, bone-in ribeye; Clarence River baby octopus with lemon, chilli and oregano; 36-hour fermented pizza dough, kick-started with a splash of Felons Australian Pale Ale before being topped with the fresh, local ingredients; and whole butterflied whiting from Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Felons has  an oyster program exclusive to its Manly venue, including oysters shucked daily served natural or with a variety of vinaigrettes, positioning itself as a top spot to enjoy oysters in Sydney. Complementing the broader offering is  a selection of unique rotating offerings, including lobster and champagne or barrel aged beer evenings; burger nights; and a premium steak range.

The venue’s vibrant new music program  features live jazz, soul, and funk bands most nights, plus a selection of Sydney’s top selectors spinning disco, 80s boogie and Afrocentric grooves. Felons Brewing Co. will also introduce its Lifestyle Club, which aims to foster community connections through initiatives like a weekly run club and beer yoga sessions; while also hosting local charity events, sustainability workshops, and collaborations with Manly’s thriving arts scene. We want to embrace that laid-back surf village charm, providing a space where everyone – locals, visitors, friends and family – can enjoy great beer and good times by the water. About Felons Brewing Co.
Felons Brewing Co. was established by Adam Flaskas and Paul Henry alongside CEO Luke Fraser; brand director Dean Romeo; and brewery director Tom Champion. Collectively, they bring over 75 years of brewing experience. Felons is a modern-day brewery born on the banks of Brisbane river at Howard Smith Wharves, founded by a group of passionate individuals with a thirst for community, quality craftsmanship and living the good life. Felons brewery pays homage to the true tale of four felons, who, back in 1823, set sail from Sydney heading south, within 8 miles of their destination a violent gale arose and blew the four felons off course and out to sea. Against all odds and sum 25 days later, the felons ended up shipwrecked on Moreton Island before coming across the Brisbane River – it is their spirit of freedom and adventure which lives on today in the Felons approach to brewing beer, cider and seltzer. In an epic conclusion, the Felons story comes full circle, back home to the shores of Sydney, where the team are proud to welcome all walks of life to their new home situated amongst the picturesque Sydney Harbour at the iconic Manly Wharf. Proudly brewed for the people of Sydney. Felons has developed a range of exceptional quality beers, winning 21 medals and 2 champion trophies, including 2024 Champion QLD Brewery, at the 2024 Independent Beer Awards. Felons’ easy and approachable core range consists of Crisp Lager, Galaxy Haze, Australian Pale Ale, IPA, Mid Crush, Raspberry Seltzer, Barrel Aged Lager and Sonny Sparkling Cider. They also offer an array of more complex craft IPAs, fruited IPAs, limited and seasonal releases and collaborations and push the brewing frontier with an extensive range of barrel-aged beers, imperial stout and double IPAs.
