Coffee break with a twist!?

This is just what Bon Fromage did with the ‘French Cheesy Coffee Morning’ workshop on October 30th, at the Simon Johnson Cooking School in Alexandria.

Imagine starting your day with the unexpected yet delicious pairing of French cheeses and rich, aromatic coffee.

Led by renowned cheese expert Victoria Lush, this immersive workshop is set to tantalize your tastebuds and expand your culinary horizons, blending two of life’s greatest pleasures in a way you’ve never experienced before.

Cheese Meets Coffee – A Whole New World of Flavours

The Bon Fromage campaign champions the idea that authentic cheeses from France deserve a permanent place in the Aussie diet – and let’s face it, is there anything more Australian than a perfectly brewed cup of coffee?

This workshop showcased just how versatile French cheeses are, making them the perfect companion to your coffee at any time of day.

Coffee and Cheese pairing

Building on the success of the Bon Fromage Festival back in June, where cheese was paired with everything from chocolate to local delicacies, this event continues the trend of innovative, flavour-packed pairings. Discover how the right cheese can unlock hidden notes in your coffee, and vice versa.

The cheeses put on show include Comté, Camembert, Pont l’Evêque, and Fourme d’Ambert – each paired with a different coffee (and one with Chai!) bringing out unique and unexpected flavours in each other.

Comté, with its savoury aroma and nutty, slightly caramelly palate, is the perfect pairing for a unique blend boasting notes of dark chocolate, toffee and hazelnut, with a balanced sweetness brought to light by the smooth texture of the cheese.

Next in the spotlight is Camembert, this classic French soft cheese from Normandy, characterised by its’ buttery, creamy texture and slight hint of cauliflower, has been matched with the ‘Elevate Blend’ – with notes of milk chocolate, honey, or even marmalade, it’s easy to see how this would be delicious alongside a creamy, buttery cheese.

Following these two bold pairings comes Pont l’Evêque, alongside a warming flat white. The creamier, sweeter drink matches uniquely with this saltier, stronger cheese. Equally, the slightly bouncy, creamy texture of the cheese blends well with the milkier coffee, leading to an interesting and unusual match of flavours.

Finally, a step away from coffee: this session ends with Fourme d’Ambert matched with a Chai Tea. The spices in the tea cut through the intensity of this blue cheese, highlighting its creamy texture and salty flavour.
