RUMA Opens in Double Bay with an All-Day Dining Twist

Double Bay, Sydney 02 December,2024 /Refreshed 25 February,2025

Say hello to RUMA, the latest dining spot transforming Double Bay’s mfood scene. Helmed by acclaimed Chef Faheem Noor, RUMA opening December 4 promises a fresh take on all-day dining, blending vibrant Modern Australian cuisine with bold Asian influences in a warm, welcoming space.

“I love what Andrew and Yuvi have done with Pina in Potts Point and what the guys from Blackwood have done in Bondi. That’s what I want to create for Ruma in Double Bay,” says Chef Noor.

“My other venture, Bartiga, on Bay Street, is all about refined dining and cocktails. With RUMA, we’re creating a relaxed, all-day modern diner that brings the vibrant flavours of Asia to the table – whether it’s our homemade pastries and cakes, Asian mezzes, great coffee, wines or mimosas.”At RUMA, the dishes are crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, bringing comfort and creativity to every bite. Staying true to its local roots, RUMA collaborates with key suppliers like Peter Wadsworth, a farmer from Milton, for fresh seasonal produce.

Expect the unexpected, including Kimchi and scallions hashbrowns, Strawberry Sando, Dosa with coconut chutney, Thai-style sausage McMuffin, and the house favourite Australian scrambled eggs with Sambal Matah. Lunch and dinner continue to impress with Wagyu striploin  with Sarawak pepper and Asian-style roast chicken with confit garlic. For a touch of indulgence, the Korean Fried Chicken with caviar brings a fun, elevated twist.

“Our menu is inspired by the incredible diversity of Sydney’s food scene,” Noor shares. “We’re blending familiar flavours with unique touches to create dishes that feel like home but with a twist.”

The drink list, curated by Alex Raclet and Alex Cameron (Table Manners Bronte), features signature cocktails and bespoke kombucha, a collaboration with Jiva Kombucha. Drawing on the feel of traditional Malay homes, RUMA’s design is cosy yet chic. Expect warm tones, raw materials, and native floralarrangements that create an intimate, laid-back vibe.

“We wanted RUMA to be a home away from home,” says Noor. “Every detail was chosen to create a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.”“My career has been shaped by mentors like Gordon Ramsay and the Roux brothers, and now I’m excited to bring my vision for RUMA to life in Double Bay.”

Seating 120, RUMA isn’t just another restaurant—it’s an experience. Marking a new chapter in Double Bay’s dining evolution, RUMA offers everything from early morning breakfast to dinner with friends, making it a must-visit destination for Sydney’s food lovers
