This summer, broaden your horizons with France’s most varied wine region. The Loire, in France’s northwest, offers a bountiful range of wines, each bursting with flavour,from crisp whites to fruity rosés, not forgetting about their elegant reds, and refreshing sparklings.

Spanning the length of the river of the same name, the Loire is a large region slightly tothe southwest of Paris and reaches all the way to the coast. The land here is lush and vibrant, often referred to as the ‘garden of France’. A region known for its castles and beautiful landscape is surely a great place to journey to for a summer – and with the varied terroir offering an equally varied selection of wines, there is something for everyone.

Closer to home, Loire Wines are collaborating with Dan Murphy’s and BWS to bring consumers a selection of exclusive in-store tastings throughout November and December with over sixty participating stores in New South Wales and Victoria – so step into summer and savour a sip of Loire Wines.

Eighteen different wines straight from the Loire will be available to try (and buy) throughout participating stores in two ‘bursts’, each spanning the course of two weeks.
The selected wines hail from 10 different appellations: Cabernet d’Anjou, Anjou, Haut Poitou, Crémant de Loire, Coteaux du Layon, Vouvray, Chinon, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Touraine and one IGP: IGP Val de Loire.

The tastings will be organised into two phases, each lasting two weeks.

Burst 1 will run from 7th to 20th November, featuring stores in New South Wales such as Double Bay,Mosman, Parramatta, and Coogee, and in Victoria, including Richmond, Prahran, and Brighton East.

Burst 2 will begin on 5th December and continue through to 18th December, with tastings at stores in New South Wales like Bondi Junction, Neutral Bay and Strathfield, and in Victoria, including Brunswick East, Kew, Coburg, and Fitzroy (for a full list of participating stores please see the end of this release).1

Bubbles

Crémant de Loire, Veuve Amiot Brut – $18.99 – 12.5%
Offering a soft, fruity palate, this sparkling wine is a great option for upcoming
festivities. Incredibly versatile, enjoy this alongside anything from a light salad, yakitori skewers, or an exotic fruit dessert.

Pure Loire, Vouvray, Famille Bougrier – $24.99 – 12.5%
This dry sparkling Vouvray is very typical of a Chenin Blanc, offering notes of apricot, honey, and quince, with a touch of minerality. A stunning wine just on its own, this would also be perfect with lightly chargrilled chicken.

Crémant de Loire, Gratien & Meyer – $22.99 – 12%
A subtle, light sparkling wine presenting fresh notes of apple, green pear, and white blossom. The gentle bubbles on the palate make this a perfect option for summer drinks with friends – why not try it alongside some fresh seafood?

White Wine

IGP Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc, La Planchelière – $14.99 – 12.5%
This light-bodied and dry white wine boasts an expressive floral profile, moving towards notes of exotic fruit on the palate. This would be ideal alongside some fresh crudites and dip.

IGP Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc, The Pebble – $18.99 – 12.5%
Produced from vineyards in the Touraine region, this Sauvignon Blanc is light, aromatic, and with a vibrant acidity. Perfect for a casual aperitif in the sun after work.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie, Domaine des Amoureux – $14.99 – 12%
This still white wine hails from the west of the Loire wine region and boasts a well- balanced palate with a pleasant roundness, and notes of citrus and yellow fruit.Another summer drinks go-to: this is a classic served alongside a platter of oysters.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie, Plessis Duval – $16.99 – 12%
Another stunning example of Muscadet, this is expressive and aromatic on the nose,with prominent notes of citrus and flowers. This is brought through onto the palate, joined by a refreshing minerality.

Red Wine

Gamay, Touraine, Thierry Delaunay – $21.99 – 14%
This red wine from Touraine is made from 100% Gamay grapes. It offers a beautiful flavour profile of red fruits – think strawberries, cherries, red plums, all of this rounded off with soft tannins.

Chinon, Marquis de Surblet, Cabernet Franc – $14.99 – 12.5%
Chinon is known for its Cabernet Francs – and for good reason. This is a beautiful example of the style, boasting an intense bouquet of red fruits (and a hint of blackcurrant), with velvety tannins. A perfect accompaniment for a summer barbecue.

Dessert Wine

Le Savetier, Coteaux du Layon, Château la Varière – $47.99 – 11.5%
This dessert wine from the region is a stunning example of botrytised Chenin Blanc. This process has given the wine a delicious, rich, sweet palate with notes of pear andquince. Amazing paired with an apple pie or fruit tart.
