INNER WEST LIGHT RAIL SERVICES RETURN
Inner West Light Rail services will resume next weekend after trams from the CBD and South East line were successfully tested for customer operation.
Minister for Transport and Minister for Veterans David Elliott said from Saturday 12 February six Citadis trams from the eastern suburbs light rail will begin operating on the Inner West line at 15 minute intervals.
“The return of Inner West Light Rail services from next Saturday is great news and will be welcomed by customers and the Inner West community,” Mr Elliott said.
“Services will operate between Dulwich Hill and Central Station, which is the full line. This is better than the original plan to run these returning services between Lilyfield and Central while the Inner West trams are being fixed.
“Initial repair work on the Urbos 3 fleet is underway with all 12 trams on track to be repaired by the final quarter of this year, ahead of the initial 18-month repair forecast.”
Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said Inner West Light Rail customers may notice some changes to their usual journey as services resume.
“Modifications to station platforms, track, and changes to speed limits have occurred to accommodate the Citadis fleet to operate on the L1 line and drivers have been trained to operate the new vehicles,” Mr Collins said.
“Staff will be on hand to provide customer service on the ground as and when required. With final testing ongoing this week please look and listen out for light rail vehicles, and only cross tracks at the designated crossings.”
Transport for NSW will complement the returning tram services by operating the popular 2L1 bus service between Central and The Star every 15 minutes from 7am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday. The F10 ferry service between Blackwattle Bay and Barangaroo operates daily, every 30 minutes.
Public transport services are currently operating modified timetables to manage COVID impacts and reduced customer demand. Anyone using the public transport network should allow extra travel time and plan ahead at https://transportnsw.info.
