AUSTRALIAN-MADE FERRY ISOBEL BENNETT ENTERS PASSENGER SERVICE

Sydney’s newest Australian-made ferry Isobel Bennett entered service at 8:15am this morning, departing Cabarita Wharf for Circular Quay.

She is the third of 7 new Australian-made vessels entering the Sydney Ferry fleet.

Key facts about Sydney’s newest ferry:

  • Designed by Incat Crowthers in the Northern Beaches
  • Built by Richardson Devine Marine in Hobart
  • The ferry is the third of seven new Parramatta River Class vessels which will replace the 30 year old RiverCat and SuperCats
  • She will serve on the F3 Circular Quay to Parramatta Route
  • The vessels have a 200-person capacity and use 40% less fuel than the vessels they replace
  • Once construction was completed in Hobart, the new ferry underwent sea-trials on the Derwent before setting off on her trip to Sydney Harbour
  • The vessel will enter service in the coming weeks
  • The vessel is named after an accomplished marine biologist Isobel Bennett
