The NSW Opposition has accused the Government of moving too slow on Cashless Gaming after an influx of venues signed up for the trial.

Shadow Minister for Gaming and Racing Kevin Anderson

Shadow Minister for Gaming and Racing Kevin Anderson said the take-up shows the industry is read to proactively tackle the issue, but it has been waiting for months for any action.“Labor talked a big game at the election when it comes to harm minimisation and money laundering, hailing its plan to trial cashless gaming as the solution,” Mr Anderson said.
“What I’ve heard loud and clear from the hospitality industry is that they are ready for cashless gaming, but they need certainty, support, and leadership from the Government.:

“This includes research into what barriers exist and making sure customer experience is not impacted by implementation.

“Pubs and clubs need to know that the new technology won’t significantly impact their ability to trade, and if it does, that they are given the tools and funding they need to diversify.

“The community also expects that the cashless gaming trial will adequately address the issues of money laundering and criminal enterprise as outlined by the Crime
Commissioner in his report into money laundering in NSW.

“The NSW Coalition is calling on the Government to address these concerns throughout the trial, and the industry and the community simply cannot wait for the release of the Independent Panel on Gaming Reform’s report to government in November 2024.”
