REDFERN STATION SOUTHERN CONCOURSE  OFFICIALLY OPENED BY PREMIER WITH SMOKE CEREMONY

The Redfern Station Upgrade project is now complete and was officially opened with a smoking ceremony and ribbon cutting by the Premier of NSW Chris Minns and the Minister for Transport Joe Haylen.

Redfern Station is now more accessible to those with a disability, limited mobility, parents/carers with prams and customers with luggage.

The Redfern Station Upgrade was delivered by the NSW Government as part of the Transport Access Program.

The new Southern Concourse provides easy access to Platforms 1-10 and enhanced connectivity between the station and key destinations in the local area.

The  Key benefits of the upgrade are

  • Easy access to platforms 1 to 10 with 6 new stairs and lifts.
  • Better connectivity with the surrounding areas including key destinations such as South Eveleigh (formerly known as Australian Technology Park), and education centres.

Upgrading Redfern Station is the first step in renewing the Redfern North Eveleigh precinct.

The upgrade was  announced and commenced by the previous  Liberal -National coalition government and the Minister for Transport at the time Andrew Constance in December of 2020. Much of the  work took  place during  scheduled rail maintenance shut downs when trains were not running to allow the work to be completed safely and to fast-track delivery to reduce the impacts on the local community.

“The upgrade means easier access to the sixth busiest station on the network, but it was designed to  future-proof Redfern Station as the area grows and attracts even more residents, workers and students.”

“The upgrade  includes new and improved shared zones on Little Eveleigh and Marian Streets, and increased bike parking.

“Planning and design of  the upgraded infrastructure was designed to help unlock the potential of the broader Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct.

Much of the  work took  place during  scheduled rail maintenance shut downs when trains were not running to allow the work to be completed safely and to fast-track delivery to reduce the impacts on the local community.
