Electric sprinter LIBERTINI stormed into contention for the $15 Million The Everest with a dominant win in today’s $500,000 Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
In an impressive first-up performance for owner Gerry Harvey, LIBERTINI defeated some of the best sprinters in the land including flying machine NATURE STRIP to win in a slick time of 1:07.60 as all talk turned to The Everest post-race.
The result saw the I AM INVICIBLE mare installed as $6 third-favourite for The Everest.
For Trainer Anthony Cummings, the performance was 12 months in the making after he had harboured Everest ambitions for the mare this time last year.
“I thought she was capable of winning The Everest last year and hopefully we get to prove the point this year,” Cummings told reporters post race.
“She just has to go home eat up and do well and back it up in two weeks time.”
