Lu wins women’s RS:X gold with third place in medal race
Going into the medal race, the top three athletes in the women’s RS:X were guaranteed the medals.
The only question was in what order LU Yunxiu (CHN), on 30 net points, Charline Picon (FRA), on 36, and Emma Wilson (GBR), on 34, would finish.
Picon won the medal race to add two points to her total, while Wilson finished second to move level on 38 points (Picon winning the tiebreaker by virtue of finishing ahead in the medal race).
But Lu’s third-place finish, adding just six points to her total, means it’s she who takes gold by just two points.
